NEW CANDIDATE TRAINING

 The information on the EMLOA training classes for the 2012 season is as follows:

1. EMLOA is one of the premier officiating organizations in the United States. We have several top level college officials on our board and these officials have helped design a training paradigm that will introduce you to the sport of lacrosse from an officials’ view. This training will give you a working knowledge of the rules and mechanics that will help you become a high school lacrosse official.

2. Each candidate must attend all four weeks of training classes. The first 3 weeks cover the rules of lacrosse and the mechanics that officials use. Between the 3^rd and 4^th classes, you take an online test from home. We then review the test in the 4^th week. The classes run from 6:30 pm to approximately 9 pm.

3. The classes will be held at the following sites on the following dates in 2012:

   - St John’s Shrewsbury (Mondays) – Jan 31^th, Feb 6^th, Feb 13^th, Feb 27^th  

   ***PLEASE NOTE FIRST CLASS IS TUESDAY JAN 31^ST, THEN ALL

   REMAINING CLASSES AT ST JOHN’S WILL BE MONDAYS – THIS IS DUE TO

   A SCHEDULING CONFLICT WITH THE SCHOOL!!!

   -Mass Maritime Academy (Wednesdays) – Feb 1^st, Feb 8^th, Feb 15^th, Feb 29^th

   -Dedham Legion Post (Thursdays) – Feb 2nd, Feb 9th, Feb 16^th, March 1st

4. If you have a conflict and cannot attend a training session one week, you can attend another site that same week and sit in on that training session as all sites follow an agenda and the same curriculum is taught at each site. If you miss multiple training classes, you will not be able to complete the program. Classes consist of three weeks of training, a test taken at home between the 3^rd and 4^th weeks, and a review on the fourth week. You are responsible for attending all training classes. We cannot accommodate those who miss classes!  

5. There is a mandatory clinic for all EMLOA members on Sunday, March 4^th. All new candidates must attend this as well.

6. All new members are subject to a CORI criminal record check. This is mandatory.

7. Cost for first
year officials is $175. This includes dues ($85 – required of all EMLOA members) and the training class fee ($90). We have an agreement with The Officials Corner (www.theofficialscorner.com) where you can purchase lacrosse gear for a discounted price. You will be responsible for ordering your gear and wearing the appropriate uniform during games. EMLOA recently went to a specific hat and socks and will have these available for purchase.

8. Anyone interested in officiating youth lacrosse only, please contact Mike Williamson at mwilliamson@wheelock.edu.

9. If you are interested in becoming a certified high school lacrosse official, please
download the attached application. It is a word document that you can fill in on the computer. Save it, fill in the grey areas and then send it back to me in an e-mail (emloatraining@yahoo.com). All applications need to be submitted by January 10^th.

10. Please contact me if you are not interested in officiating so that I may take you off of the contact list. Please note that I send out numerous e-mails regarding training.  Please set your computer to receive these. If you don’t want to officiate and don’t want the e-mails, just tell me and I’ll remove your name.
